Mission

GATE (Gent Alliance for Tissue Engineering) wants to connect top-researchers in the field of tissue regeneration and tissue engineering. Existing research groups within the UGent and UZGent meet regularly to share scientific information and inspire each other. Our ambition is to become the primus inter pares in the field of research of GATE. We strive to further develop and expand this combined top-research and the resulting scientific knowledge in order to thus directly impact humanity and society.

We will achieve this by creating added value on multiple levels:

in the field of health care and economics: better survival, higher life quality, less scar tissue, less complications, less pain, lower hospital bills, faster resumption of work and lowered health insurance costs
by the creation of a unique patent wallet through pioneering research
as a multidisciplinary consortium we have an increased capacity for obtaining research funds from national and international funding channels
by building expertise we are building the future landscape of young researchers and clinicians
by encouraging, strengthening and inspiring education and schooling
by intensive internationalization, we increase visibility of research in tissue engineering and vice versa: international research creates a higher visibility and such increased visibility attracts more international interest and researchers
by intensive interaction and collaboration with national and international companies through technology transfer and creation of new businesses, trade and employment (spin-offs, start-ups)
